Small Conductor
26 to 28AWG
When using copper connectivity in a data center, Category 6A is normally the only transmission level people would start with. Along with the volumes of interconnection or cross-connection from top of the rack and among cabinets in data centers, high-density installations are commonly seen. The port proximity becomes congested and the flexible patch cords are well-liked.
And this is where 28AWG slim or 30AWG ultra slim patch cords come into play.
The insulations and conductors for these ultra-slim cables are way smaller than regular ones. In these cases, it is recommended to use “Small Conductor” plug so slim wires can be steadily seated and conductivity can be assured.
HCI offers modular plugs that are specially made for smaller conductors ranging from 26AWG to 30AWG cable.
The “Small Conductor” plug is a 2-piece design.
The loading bar is made in two rows - “6-up/2-down”. It facilitates moving the green pair away from the other pairs. The most impedance-mismatched pair is put away so as to moderate the noises done to the other pairs. Each wire is trimmed flush and steadily seated. Plug assembly that surpasses the Cat 6A specification is therefore feasible.
