For nearly 20 years, ever since PoE was introduced with IEEE 802.3af, installers have wanted a way to cut down on extra connections—like wall outlets and patch cords—between the Power Sourcing Equipment (PSE) and the Power Device (PD). But it wasn’t until 2018 that the ANSI/TIA-568.2-D standard finally came through, defining the Modular Plug Terminated Link (MPTL) standards. The whole idea was to use a male plug right at the end of the link from the PSE, so you could skip adding extra components. Since then, Field Terminable Plugs have become crucial for this purpose. These plugs are designed to accommodate 23AWG solid wires, which are too thick to fit into regular RJ-45 plugs, making them the go-to solution for PoE applications.
Patented Design
The PCBA in our 88TK Series is covered by U.S. Patent 10,490,960 B1, and hereâs what makes it stand out. Two pairs of piercing terminals sit in a horizontal line, angled at 30 degrees (Group A), while one pair tilts vertically at 30 degrees (Group B) and the other mirrors that as Group C. This clever setup packs all four pairs neatly into a tight space without compromising circuit balance.
Covering MPTL and Patch Cord Limits
While MPTL limits align closely with the relatively relaxed Perm. Link standards, Patch Cord Limits present a tougher challenge. These stricter requirements assess the plug's ability to independently meet connecting hardware performance. The 88TK Series addresses this with a precisely engineered PCBA, delivering optimized crosstalk compensation to ensure compliance with both MPTL and the stricter Patch Cord Limits.

Assembling a 23AWG solid cable into a conventional modular plug is no easy feat. The tight interior and narrow grooves arenât exactly forgiving. The compact design of HCIâs 88TK Series, with a body length of just 42.95mm, is perfect for spaces with limited rear clearance, such as tight corners. Its cable routing optionsâstraight, angled upward, or downwardâcan be securely fastened with nylon straps for added stability. With a slim 14mm width and a low-profile height, itâs an excellent choice for installation in narrow enclosures or connection to edge-mounted devices.
Fully Compliant with True 4PPoE Standards
Youâve probably seen plenty of patch cords and modular plugs labeled as "4PPoE," but are they really up to the job? True compliance with PoE Type 4 standards means more than just a labelâit requires third-party testing for both IEEE 802.3btâs 90W power delivery and IEC 60512-99-002 for durability under load. HCIâs 88TK Series is one of the few you can actually find in the ETL directory, proving itâs the real deal when it comes to reliability.
CP: The Missing Link in Cat 6A
For Cat 5e and Cat 6, 110 connecting blocks are a common choice at consolidation points (CP) for zone distributions. However, Cat 6A 110 blocks are rare because they struggle to manage alien crosstalk. Thatâs where HCIâs 88TK Series comes in. It supports Cat 6A solid cables and pairs perfectly with the ETL Alien Crosstalk-verified DSP12ZD panel. Put them together, and youâve got a reliable setup for group transits at Consolidation Point.
